If there were cigarettes that your parents wouldn't mind you smoking...then it would only be these...
The name that was actually given since these boats were used at first to smuggle cigarettes into Canada and therefore derived their nick name as the "cigarette boat".
A company was formed later and trademarked the actual name Cigarette.
WHERE IT ALL STARTED?
If you know about Power-boat racing, then you would surely be familiar with the name Don Aronow.
Aronow's boats won over 350 offshore races, owned every speed record in every country at one time and he was a two-time world champion and three-time U.S. champion.
He has been elected to every powerboating Hall of Fame in existence and was one of only two Americans to have ever received the UIM Gold Medal of Honor, the other being Gar Wood.
CIGARETTE MODELS
Nothing like low-tar or a Light version here - all these are in-your-face ultimate mean machines that fly on water....
There are 3 types of Cigarettes - Sport Cruiser, Center Console and the ultimate is the High Performance; where engines dole out upto 1200 horsepower and have exciting names like MARAUDER and TOP GUN UNLIMITED !
LEGENDS ARE BUILT, NOT BORN
To get an idea about how a Cigarette is built to be as unique as its owner, one needs to know the 10 well-defined steps that happen only by the culmination of many departments working together in unison.
Step One - LAMINATION : Here the mold that is used for the hull of the Cigarette is gel-coated with the same gel that forms the exterior of the boat. In the end, the precision of the hull is judged by weighin the hull to identify what irregularities could occur during manufacturing.
Step Two - CARPENTRY : The Stringer system or the Backbone of the boat is then cut and installed.
Step Three - FINISHING : The joined hull, deck and its parts are shifted to the Finishing Department where the surface is sanded to a glossy finish.
Step Four - RIGGING : Here the internal work is done - engines, drives, trim tabs to electrical systems and dashboards.
Step Five - ELECTRICAL : A painstaking step that involves placement of the myriad wires into the structure of the boat - the boat's own Circulatory System.
Step Six - UPHOLSTERY : Cushioned to fit right!
Step Seven - EMBROIDERY : Obviously you would want leather, and these guys have 1000s of options to Cigarette logos and to match colors.
Step Eight - PAINT : This is surely the most exciting part of every Cigarette...sometimes taking upto a month to complete.
Step Nine - FINAL RIGGING : This is like Garnishing a salad...fine-tuning till the last detail...just before the sea-trial.
Step Ten - SEA TRIAL : Sea-trialed a number of times, it is not only about going flat-out on water but more extensive work involving checklists.
NOT JUST A BOAT
A Cigarette is not just a boat - it's a hand-created work of art, a mixture of old world craftsmanship and new-world technology. It is music to your ears and a feast for your eyes.
These boats are difficult to detect by radar except on flat calm seas or at close range.
Surely now we all know which boat to aspire for...
