RANGE ROVER - A Yacht Tender!?!

Monaco Yacht Show 08, which raises its curtain today, has lots to offer when it comes to fine luxury! You will get to see all sizes of high end luxury yachts and different makes such as Ferretti, Azimut, Benetti, Princess etc on display. And to add a spark to the Yacht Show, the visitors will get to see a sketch of megayacht-inspired versions of the Range Rover sport-utility vehicle.


So if you are buying a $60 Million 270ft luxury mega-yacht at the Monaco Yacht Show this month the next thing you probably would want is a Range Rover to go with it. So if that's the case consider yourself lucky! Edmiston the global yacht brokerage and sales company have come up with a program to have yacht designers create megayacht-inspired versions of the Range Rover sport-utility vehicle. The Range Rovers are pimped up to go with the multi million $ yachts.


Andrew Winch, Martin Francis, Terence Disdale, Ken Freivokh, Dickie Bannenberg, Tim Heywood and Redman Whitely Dixon are the Seven leading yacht designers who submitted their designs. The sketches will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show and a winner will be chosen tomorrow, 25th of September. Customers can order an actual model, for a mere €200,000 to €800,000, or nearly $300,000 to $1.2 million! If that sounds expensive, Edmiston comments that its nothing when compared to a typical mega-yacht tender.


Amongst the design submitted, the design by Disdale and Bannenberg are the most interesting ones. Mr. Disdale created a convertible to become what he calls the “St. Tropez Al Fresco tender”. The luggage compartment is tucked beneath a teak cover and has large white waterproof seats.


The Bannenberg model has an entire rear deck, complete with a sun tent, custom-molded chaise lounge and champagne holders! Its unbelievable that a Range Rover can be modified to such an extent. ALL SOLD OUT ! - The 18th Monaco Yacht Show is a HIT before it Happens

Something akin to what was happening in the Indian Stock Markets a while back, has happened in the Monaco Yacht Industry. Just as IPOs are over-subscribed 100s of times before the a scrip is on the equity market; the 18th Monaco Yacht Show has been sold out before it has happened.


From the 24th to the 27th of September 2008, the companies of the luxury yachting sector will return to Port Hercules for the 18th Monaco Yacht Show.

'THE' YACHT SHOW

If there was a boat show that could take the claim of being THE boat show that represents yachting trends of the world, it would be the Monaco Yacht Show.

18 years into its inception - since the wealthy residents and the yachting fraternity of Monaco felt it would be better to have a boat show for the rest of the world to follow - the Monaco Yacht Show sets the ball rolling for boat shows across the world even now.

Just last month we saw the Dubai International Boat Show '08 that set a record sales of $200 million worth of transactions happening over the 5 days, the Monaco Yacht Show coming up in September goes one step ahead by making sure everything is sold out before they can be displayed on the stands.

INTERNATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE

International luxury yachting industry professionals are not mistaken in positioning the MYS as the super yacht show which attracts a global high-end professional and private clientele: 500 exhibitors and 28,000 participants are expected for 2008.


The MYS accurately reflects the evolution of this sector: in 2007, the show presented an exceptional fleet of 97 super yachts up to 90 meters, with a record average length of 42 meters and 40 world première launches. Plus, some fifty yachts anchored in the Monaco bay. The 2008 edition promises to be just as exceptional!

With an expanding market in recent years, participating in the show has become a must for industry leaders and therefore so has the demand for berths.


What makes it special is that this show is one that commands the participation of the worlds largest super-yachts and concepts - there are more super- and mega-yachts here than smaller boats displayed in most international events such as these.

A BOON TO SOCIETY

The MYS has supported the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy since 2001 through the organization of exceptional charity projects. On September 20th, 2007, for example, the charity auction Only Watch raised 2.7 million Euros. Each year, the show also donates 50% of its entrance fee earnings. Since 2005, the Monaco Yacht Show has earned the Carbon Neutral label by paying an eco-tax to finance global environmental protection projects in association with Camper & Nicholsons.

The Mumbai International Boat Show should follow the examples set across by various boat shows in terms of vision and volume in order to make the yachting industry here a landmark industry.

The Monaco Yacht Show Making Earth A Better Place To Live.

The Monaco Yacht Show is well aware of the scale of the danger our planet is facing. That is why it has adopted a sustainable development strategy over the past three years which consists in paying an ecology tax each year to help fund ecology projects throughout the world. This ecology tax is calculated on the basis of carbon dioxide emissions caused by exhibitors, visitors and yachts presented in the in-water exhibition (including transport, accommodation and arrival at Monaco of the yachts themselves). The Monaco Yacht Show is continuing its commitment to environmental protection and will set up new projects in India and China….

The first one involves constructing 10 wind turbines in the Indian states of Karnataka and Rajasthan. These turbines will produce enough energy to supply 30 000 households and will reduce the region’s dependency upon fossil fuels. This in turn will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 84 000 tonnes over the next five years.

The objective of the second programme is to construct 36 wind turbines in the North of China on the Saihanba Farm in order to exploit the great wind resources of that region. This wind farm will help commercialise clean energy, one of the priority policies of the Chinese government. Over the next two years this project will allow the region to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 138 000 tonnes.

Luc Pettavino , Director of The Monaco Yacht Show: “We now know that our planet is not so great after all and that what happens in India or China has a direct impact on our own environment. It is also essential that these countries have significant models because though they are economic giants, they are only just beginning to come round to respecting the environment. That’s why the projects selected for 2008 will be set up in these countries. All in all, it is our duty to do all in our power to leave our planet to future generations in the best possible state.”

These projects which are being carried out jointly with Camper & Nicholsons International have enabled the world leader in international luxury yacht shows to earn the Carbon Neutral stamp. This makes the Monaco Yacht Show the first Monaco-based company to be awarded this stamp. Read more...

The 'GREEN BOAT EFFECT' Part I: Yachts And The Environment

The megayacht industry has blossomed over the last ten years, with multi millionaires and billionaires buying yachts in the tens of millions of Euros price range. When it comes to some billionaires they seem intent on buying a fleet that would put some small countries’ navies to shame.

This may sound boastful, hence sceptics and critics are raising their eyebrows!
What good is it doing at the end of the day?
Are we arriving at a win-win situation when it comes to the protection of the environment and prevention of global warming?
Well, the Monaco Yacht Show has answered these questions and can proudly call itself a 'carbon neutral event'.

Despite being the second smallest country in the world Monaco has established herself as the natural European home for many of the world's wealthiest men and women due to her tax haven status, with many more visiting on holiday while cruising the Mediterranean for the Monte Carlo casino - and Monaco has managed to stay as a top destination by cleverly spotting and exploiting trends ahead of her competitiors.
The Monaco Yacht Show is part of the attraction for the super-rich, and has firmly established itself as the leading super yacht show in the world over the last fifteen years.

Monaco is showing that cuts in carbon emissions and other greenhouse gases are possible in a land of plenty, and the Monaco Yacht Show has successfully achieved carbon neutral status for the 2005, 2006 and 2007 events, thus establishing itself on the map of Monaco as an environmentally friendly event.


To attain carbon neutral status last year, the organisers sponsored various projects in Europe and further afield to offset carbon emissions generated by the show.
The show paid for wind turbines In New Zealand, generating enough electricity for 45,000 homes and in Brittany France paid for a heath to be planted with chesnut and oak trees to protect water catchments and provide a recreational area, while in the USA paid for a methane capture system, reducing the amounts being emitted by some 95 per cent.


The leadership for the move to a greener Monaco has come from Sovereign Prince Albert, who has been successfully campaigning among world leaders since his inauguration two years ago to move the environment up the political agenda, and it has brought the issue to the fore at home.

MONACO BOAT SHOW



Held in September last year, the Monaco Boat Show was the undisputed 'King' of all the Boat Shows, thanks to its yachting fraternity consisting of the worlds best celebrities and casinos and of course - the beautiful yachts.

In this video, we get to see the entire Monaco Harbor - right from the edge of the sea and till the end towards the land mass of Monaco - where F1 cars pass by at their blistering pace during one of the best and longest road-going F1 race - the Monaco Grand Prix.

In terms of yachts, we get to a view of the Atlantis II in the start of the video and what appears as the Roman Abramovich-owned Pelorus. The video continues to show a glimpse of many other yachts and highlights the Monaco Classic Week and its casinos.

Monaco stands up to its name of the being the hottest yacthing destination year-on-year thanks to its every increasing infrastructure, and in the background of some parts of this video we see the related ongoing constrution.
