Power Boat P1 : Speed Boat-ing at Level Next

With 'being normal' a thing of the past...'going extreme' is the IN-thing !

...and in water...to go extreme...you would have to be behing the wheel of one of the boats in the Power Boat P1 Championships!


Held in most of Europe's finest holiday seaside destinations - its exhilarating, dramatic, action-packed and one of the fastest growing motorsports in Europe.


In the finest of racing traditions, sleek powerful machines, in the hands of skilled pilots, compete for the challenge and the glory.

THE POWER BOATS

With upto 20 open-top mono-hull craft competing in each round, it is a dramatic spectacle.

Many of the world's leading boat and engine manufacturers are represented and competition is intense as the most advanced production performance boats, some generating up to 2000 horsepower, demonstrate acceleration, turning and outright speed in arduous conditions and at the highest level of competition.


There are 2 classes :-

1) Evolution Class - Length between 36ft to 43ft and reaching speeds of 160kmph on water.

2) SuperSport Class - Length between 33ft to 42ft and reaching speeds of 145kmph on warter.

'Pilot'-ed (its so fast that the drivers are called 'Pilots') by professional, there is no other motorsport discipline, as all powerboat racers will confirm, can match the challenge of man and machine battling for supremacy against the might of the elements.


If your impression of powerboat racing is of a sport that remains the preserve of the ultra rich, think again! Due to television and media coverage and the U.I.M. Power Boat P1 rules and regulations attracts all sorts of pilots with different backgrounds and women participate too !

BASIC RULES & REGULATIONS

1) A racing crew comprises a maximum of 3 pilots.
2) There are two boat categories, SuperSport (standard production) and Evolution (prototype). Both race together to enhance the sporting spectacle.
3) A Grand Prix comprises two weekend races; a 'Rally' of no less than 50 nautical miles in distance and an 'Endurance' of no less than 80.


4) The circuits are specially designed, usually close to the shoreline, for the benefit of the large crowds.
5) Championship and Grand Prix points are awarded to the first 8 finishers in each class.
6) There are team, constructor and engine manufacturer world championship titles.
7) Strict power to weight ratios help to maintain the competitive close racing.

THE EXPERIENCE

With an objective to combine the thrill and excitement of competitive motorsport with a carnival atmosphere, create exhibition zones and deliver top quality live entertainment - this watersport is fast picking up popularity.


Hospitality packages of different grades are offered to customers to experience a race weekend and at the same time enjoy the local surroundings and culture.

MEDIA COVERAGE & FUTURE

The 2007 UIM Powerboat P1 World Championship will have arguably the most extensive television coverage in the history of performance boat racing, reaching across four continents and a potential audience of more than 100 million viewers.

At the same time, thanks to its acceptance in regions more than Europe - the next season will see the introduction of the Mid-East as a venue. Powerboat P1 confirmed Bahrain as the venue for the first ever Powerboat P1 Grand Prix to be staged in the Middle East.


Also, in the USA, the Power Boat P1 Power-to-weight ratio has been adopted in its own version Offshore Super Series (OSS).
