Yes... true to everyone’s surprise… not even a year old and Giira Yachts – India’s first Yacht blog has already got funded $8mllion. The 8million has been invested by 2 venture capitalists for an undisclosed equity in the co. the 2 VC’s are based in Europe, one from Italy and the other being from UK.
One of the VC’s present during the signing of contract mentioned “We have always been keeping a watch on Giira yachts right since its inception days. We are pleased to be a part of Giira and are looking for a long term association with them.”
On asking if $8million was a high figure the VC replied saying – “We have taken a look at their future projects and their vision and feel it’s the right price to pay for this new venture.”
Whats next for Giira?
With this money Giira plans to open a chain of marine themed restaurants which would generate business and they also plan to import yacht related spares and equipment which they feel has a lot of potential in this untapped market. The owners are soon to retire and will replace themselves with CEO’s from the industry.
Reaction of the Founders -
Zinia and Gautam who are one of the owners of Giira have been admitted to the hospital due to heart attack which doctors believe could be related to the funding.
Meherzad and Paurush on the other hand are legally fighting it out in the court for the equity of the Zinia and Gautam.
We wish them all the best in their new venture and pray that Gautam and Zinia recover quickly from the hospital.
By the way the final verdict of the case will be declared on the 1st of April 2008. ;).
