Yachts And Movies: The (Floating) Island !

The movie ‘The Island’ features a yacht named Renovatio which means REBIRTH in Latin. And the boat is not just a movie prop. Its as real as you want it to be!
The black yacht in the dreams of Lincoln 6 Echo, shown in the film is the Wallypower 118 super yacht.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we bring to you the rebirth of design and the future of yachting…

WallyPower 118 yacht is such an ambitious and innovative feat of engineering design that it appears to be out of science fiction. It is 118 feet long and is capable of reaching 60 knots. The teak laminate deck, staterooms, and cabinetry soften the sci-fi effect for a warm and inviting atmosphere within a super luxury yacht that can accommodate six guests and six crew.

The 118 WallyPower won the MYDA, Millennium Yacht Design Award, for the "Layout of the Third Millennium." It is also being honored by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as the sole boat in its major architecture and design exhibition: 'Glamour: Fabricating Affluence'. The 118 is known by most from its role as the "Renovatio" in the 2005 science-fiction film The Island.

This particular video clip has the yacht in it and it looks absolutely stunning. its a must watch.

The boat is built almost entirely out of carbon fiber, Kevlar and glass with a teak-deck. The boat features 2 Cummins engines, each delivering 370 BHP. In addition, 3 Rolls Royce gas-turbine engines provide the speed of 60 knots cruising speed. Boat value is $27 million.

It’s a great movie with a unique concept – ‘The Island’, with the Boat featuring as part of a dream in the beginning of the movie and becoming a reality towards it’s end! If you haven’t seen it yet you now have a reason to go catch it. A futuristic storyline and a futuristic boat! One of them is already a reality…
