BRAVO - Kenichi Horie scores 110 / 100 !

Some time back we had spoken about Kenichi Horie's ongoing One-of-a-Kind Sea Voyage on his wave-powered boat - the Suntory Mermaid II.

News is in that Horie's trip that began in Honolulu in March, ended Friday when his 3-ton yacht docked in Wakayama in western Japan.

Below is more information about his voyage and some more unique if not exciting facts!

THE WAVE-POWERED TRIP

The voyage of 110 days is the what Horie claims as the world's longest solo voyage in a wave-powered boat.

The trip took that much time since the Horie seemed to have Lady Luck on his side with calm seas and fair weather patting his back throughout.

ALONE ON THE PACIFIC

As reported by this site, a movie on the solo pan-Pacific in one of the small, handmade vessels that Horie has made, has been made.

What might have been a banal TV "movie of the week" in American hands is transformed into a work of art by Japanese director Kon Ichikawa. Alone on the Pacific is based on the true story of Kenichi Horie. Yuiro Ishihara stars as the erstwhile mariner, who sets out on his mission from Japan's Osaka Bay.

Despite the ravages of the elements, Ishihara realizes his goal, and in the last shot is seen sailing beneath the Golden Gate bridge. The film's more suspenseful moments are leavened by welcome (and appropriate) doses of humor.

Also titled My Enemy, The Sea, Alone on the Pacific is based on Kenichi Horie's own logbook. The American print runs 100 minutes, 4 minutes shy of the original Japanese running time.

A PERFECT 100

On completing the record-making voyage, the earth-loving environmentalist exclaimed that he would continue pursuing records of these kind till he reaches 'triple-digit' figures !
