Update on “Volvo Race” India Stopover

The upcoming and probably the most exciting yachting event of the year the 39,000 nautical mile “Volvo Ocean Race” which has been keeping the entire yachting industry on its toes, the event is in full swing and preparations are being made. Talking about the stopover, the event management companies have been selected who wld be involved in the stopover of the race.




A meeting at the Cochin Port Trust on Monday decided to appoint a consortium of Ocean Blue Boating, Mumbai, and STARK Communications, Thiruvananthapuram, as the event management team for the India stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 to be hosted jointly by the Cochin Port Trust and the Kerala Tourism Department.

Scope of work - The event manager is expected to appoint separate teams for media management, water technical operations, race village management, IT and audiovisual requirements as well as a management team for the day-to-day events.

Also CNBC sport 18 & Screenary Media Pvt Ltd., have been chosen as the marketing managers for the event. The entire event is expected to cost about Rs 30 crore.Cochin Port Trust will be spending Rs 20 crore more on lengthening the BTP jetty from the present 200 meters to 330 meters.
