Gulu Lalwani Eyeing the Indian Marina Industry!!!

Gulu Lalwani founder and chairman of Binatone, the world’s fourth or fifth largest manufacturer of digital cordless phones has plan to set his sail towards India. the telecom giant has plans to set up marians in India. yes you head it right. A phone manufacturer entering the marine infrastructure line.

Although this may come as a shock to many and probably wont understand the revelence, Gulu lalwani has already in the past developed a marina setup in Pukhet known as Royal Phuket Marina.

The $250 million state of the art Royal phuket marina has also been awarded the prestigious "Marina Five Gold Anchors Award" by the British Marine Federation. This is the highest honour to be given to a marina, with Raffles being the only other Marina in the region with this award. Below is the pic of the RPM.

Whats in store for India?

Currently there is no concrete location on his mind but has mentioned kerela and orrisa.

"I also feel that Gateway of India should have a marina, but I believe it’s not easy to get land in Mumbai. So I need the local government to offer me some land to get work done." Said Mr Gulu lalvani in an interview with TOI

Whats holding him back?

Fear of Red Tapism in India which his fear might have originated from his past experience when he launched Binatone televisions in late ’80s.

He also feels that investors may not be as prepared to spend in India as much as phuket. He also mentioned about the govt support they received when the govt decided to reduce the import duties which were 200% earlier to encourage investors.

With the Indian market growing exponentially and the vast opportunity available, we can expect many such international players to enter the Indian market. According to me it’s just a matter of time after which India will be on the world map for top yachting markets in the world.
