Yachting in the Virtual World !

Ever heard of Second Life? No, we are not talking about re-birth...but something more on the lines of a 'online schizophrenia' disorder. People keep talking about how we develop a change in our personalities when we spend hours a day on the Internet, but Second Life (SL) is more than that...it lets you 'live' a whole new and different life in the other virtual world (yikes!).

Relatively less scary than it sounds, SL is is an Internet-based virtual world launched in 2003. It enables its users, called 'Residents' to interact and is an advanced level of a Social Networking Service (Web 3.0 already ?).

Residents can explore, meet other Residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, create and trade items (virtual property) and services from one another. Now, residents even have a service where they can step into a Gucci or an Adidas showroom of this virtual world, check a product they wish to procure, and then bill it on their credit cart, and its delivered to the doorstep of their real world. Exciting and interesting, isn't it?

That makes us wonder...what it must be to go sailing in this virtual world. We looked up our favorite http://www.youtube.com/ and VOILA!...we get the perfect look at sailing the virtual winds.

SECOND LIFE SHIPYARD

The video above shows us a virtual shipyard with its yachts...called Holiday's Modern Yachts. The yachts look similar to their real-life counterparts.

THE 'FAKE' MEGAYACHT

And incase you make it big and become a billionaire in the unreal world, you get access to the Billionaire's yacht complete with a chartered helicopter dropping you to your prized possession. The video demos the application that you install on your computer that allows you to access all the functions of the items you see on the screen. You get to access the entire Victoria yacht and all its levels and interiors are exposed...you even get access to the remote door opening on the top-most level.

Make sure you log-on to youtube and get a glimpse of lot more videos of how life is in SL.

Meanwhile, we would be happy to slug it out in real on our yachts in RL (pun intended)...
